THE G O VEEN OR-G ENER A L OPENS THE SYDNEY STA'iION. ENCIRCLING CHAIN OF STATIONS (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) (Received 10, 10.40 a.m.) Sydney, February- 10. The Governor-General opened the wireless station. Lord Denman despatched a message to Admiral KingHall on the Drake at Hobart, also ut the Governor of Tasmania. Mr. Fisher declared that this was the first link of the chain which would eventually encircle Australia. , Mr. Fraser said ho recognised that Australia was behind the times, but it had been beset by difficulties from which it was not yet clear. The Government, however, was determined t° push tho scheme to completion. If it found that it was infringing anyone’s rights it was prepared to pay reasonably. He hoped the station at Hobart would be ready in five weeks’ time, and the Thursday Island and Port Moresby stations by tho end of tho financial year.
