An exaggerated statement Inis appeared in the Wellington papers with regard to the Stratford-Ongarue line, under the heading of “Co-ops. who do not co-op.” it was stated that 15 of the 50 men engaged on the work had struck owing to the fact that some of their number were receiving* only Gs a day. while others wore making Os Bd. After making full enquiries we have ascertained that this is grassly misleading. One man working by himself, and not a very able workman, certainly did make Gs a day, hut the fifteen who struck made something like 7s 2d on an average. But it is more than probable, since there was internal strife among them, that these fifteen men had only themselves to blame for the low wages. The remaining thirty-five men are making good wages, and are quite satisfied, llecently a new contract was drawn up,' and all the men are now working harmoniously. IX BANKRUPTCY.
