GARRISON ORDERS.

AN INTERESTING DOCUMENT. 'An interesting old document, being Garrison Orders dated May 2, 1864, is being framed for presentation to the New Plymouth Veterans’ Association, lb reads as follows:

New Plymouth, 2nd Alay, 1864 GARRISON ORDERS. DETAIL FOR TO-MORROAV. Field Officer for the Day: Major Baddeley. Next for Duty: Captain Stewart.

Colonel Warre desires to offer his best thanks and cordial congratulations to Captain Short, 57th Regt., and to the officers, non-com. officers, and men of the detachment (under 100 pfficors and men) who so successfully repulsed the attack of the Rebel Alaoris on the Redoubt at Sentry Hill yesterday. With a courage, proved by their severe loss and by the dead being found within 150yds of the redoubt, ; the rebel Maoris advanced boldly upon the small Garrison, who' as boldly and with a steadiness 1 and discipline deserving of the greatest praise,, allowed the JVlhoris to come within easy range before .a shot was 1 fifed. The result whs nidst satisfactory; 1 34 of the rebels 'wore left upon the field—among them somq of their leading chiefs—and more than ddiiblo of that number, it is stated, were borne away wounded by their companions. To Ala jor Butler, 57 th Regt., Major H. A. Atkinson, Taranaki Eifle Volunteers, and the officers, non-com. officers! and men of the Regular and Civil Forces, who so promptly turned out ;o the assistance of the small Garrison,, although their co-operation was not actively required, the Colonel’s thanks are also due, and he will have great pleasure in bringing the excellent conduct of all engaged to the notice of Lieut.-General Cameron, K.C.8., Commanding the Forces. REGIMENTAL ORDERS. 1. The following promotion will take effect from the 6th April inclusive:— Private F. Johnson to lie Corporal in No. 12 Company, vice Banks, killed in action at Aim Aim. 2. The following appointments will take effect from this date:— Corporal Den by to be Lance Sergeant in No. 12 Company. Private E. Beattie to he LanceCorporal in No. 12 Company.
