(Per Press Association.) Auckland, February 6. The overdue steamer Croydon which arrived from San Francisco this morning after a 45 days’ passage reported that the delay was caused' by unfavourable weather. The Croydon escaped from Nukualofa, Tonga, during the hurricane, which, according to the pilot who took the vessel out, had destroyed half the town and wrecked every launch in port. No details were available. The Croydon lost some loose hamper and a quantity of deck cargo of timber. The steamer Hormolein which arrived this morning encountered the hurricane in latitude 7.2 west and had all her: masts carried away, her bulwarks sihashed and two boats smashed, and three or four thousand feet of timber was washed overboard. Westport, February 6. The fire at Gramty was responsible for a second death. James Martin, licensee, who was burnt while endeavouring to rescue papers, died in the Westport hospital thi/s morning. The inquest showed , that - Avdien Hopkins, the first victim, was put’ to bed, he was not quite sober. • Most of 1 the inmates lost nearly all their belongings. Rotorua, February 6. The Rocky Nook boardinghouse -was partially gutted by fire this morning, very little furniture in the part affected being saved. The building, which is old, is owned by James Vaughan and occupied by J. Coleman. It is insured in the Sun for £l9O and furniture in the Phoenix for £420. Only two boarders occupied the portion burnt. Auckland, February 6. In the Supreme Court decrees nisi were granted against Henry Elliott on the ground of misconduct; Edith Evc•lyn Barrett v. Ernest Norton Barrett, misconduct with Rose Darnloy; Winifred Griggs v. Alfred John Griggs, misconduct; John Louis Hansen v. Margaret Jane Hansen, misconduct.
