LONDON PRODUCE MARKET. Following is the report (dated December 28th) received by Mr Newton Ring from R. and W. Davidson, Glasgow:— Continental Butters.—Our ; markets this week have been somewhat upset owing to the holidays; there, however, has been a fairly active demand and stocks are well cleared. Telegraphic advices yesterday from Copenhagen state that the market there was dull, and the quotation to-day has been declared 3 kroner down. Danish and Swedish: The total arrivals of Danish this week show a decrease of 1693 casks. The market was of a holiday character, hut a fair clearance was made at ps to 6s per cwt of a reduction; to-day’s, quotation .for choicest quality 133 sto 1355. Colonial: Butters.—Australian: The arrivals this week comprise the s.s. .Otway with 44,306 boxes ~on 'board, s.s. Demosthenes with 4307 boxes, k.s. Anchises with 931 boxes, and the s.s. Durham with 477 boxes. Although the arrivals are fairly liberal, we anticipate there will be no difficulty, in,. clearing stocks, as the quantity: in,, dealers’ hands all over the country is. extremely small, and we anticipate good' buying from now onward. The market opened after the holidays with a distinctly firm tone, and this condition we think it likely to continue, and develop still further. To-day’s prices for strictly choicest salt are 126 s to 1275, exceptionally 128 s, being made for one or two fa.ouritc factories Secondary descriptions are, scarce and in consequence relatively dear; quotations for this grade 122 s to 1245; choicest unsalted, still continue to be somewhat slow of sale, and at the moment no premium over the price of :alted is obtainable. New Zealand: The goods landed ex s.s. lonic have met with only a fair demand. This lias principally been caused by Hie North of England and Scottish buyers holding off, as the prices asked are relatively as high or higher than they ire presently paying for Danish, and in consequence they are giving the preference to the latter. We quote co-day’s price choicest quality 130 s. Imports to the United Kingdom: The total figures up to the 23rd December if this year and for the corresponding period of 1908, 1909, and 1910 are as I follows :— —1908, 4,114,323 cwts; 1909, 3,992,338 cwts; 1910, 4,220,137 ,cwts ; 1911, 4,240,334 cwts.
