ROOTS AVINS THE CHAMPION BELT.

The Taranaki Rifle Association neeting was concluded at the Rewa iewa range, Waiwakaiho, yesterday, fhe wind, however, was rather tricky, md this and the sun affected shoeing at the longer ranges. Private Gilshnan, Patea, won the itratford match (800, 900, and 1000 ds) with the good score of 93. At he finish of the second distance he ras four points (59 —63) behind Roots, nit ho missed the possible by one at he long distance, making his score hunt best. (A. E. Speck (Stratford) .Iso scored 93. He was one ahead •f Roots at the second distance, but mly scored 29 at the last range, fourth and fifth places were filled iy W. Bruce (New Plymouth) ■ and 1 Jackson (Stratford), who also inlulged in close scoring . Both scoring moderately at 800, they pulled up it 900, Bruce putting on 32 and Jackion the pgssible. They faded away it 1000—Jackson to 28. The shooting m the whole was excellent, the low‘st prize-taker in the first section '.coring 81, though the lowest tyro n’ize-taker’s score was 65. Rifle dub members were well represented m the prize-list. The Patea match (ton shots at 1000 /ds) was won by Lieut. Willis( New Plymouth )with 47. Roots (43) was ;ounted back to seventh place. Jackson was second to last in a rather big section of 41’s. Among the tyros S. Brocklebank made 37 and McMahon 33. The district’s newest flub (Pohokura) was fairly represented in the prize-list. The Grand Aggregate was won by Roots with 365, Lieut. Willis following with 360. C. Speck was fourth vith 348 and Jackson was eleventh with 341. . Private F. Mace (New Plymouth) .von the Tyros’ Aggregate with 339. Brocklebank was third with 310. Prominent places on the prize-list were tiled by Pohokura men—Ritchie (316), Oooper (305) Armstrong (303), and Bush (302). The New Plymouth Rifle Club’s No. I team Avon the Teams Race (300, 500, and 600) with a score of 470. Stratford scored 432. Pohokura entered two teams the scores being: No. 1, 398; No. 2, 395.
