LATE LOCALS.
A practice of the Operatic Society was Held last evening, when several new members were present, aud good work was done.
Some misapprehension has existed os to whether the seaside picnic on Thursday is to be held on cue beach at Motnroa or at Fitzroy.Tt should be stated that the former is, the site selected.
Blocks for the chopping events in the sports to be held at vVaitanv on Thursday came into town by the Toko train tins morning. About sixteen years ago the North Taranaki Hunt hold a proportion of their meets in the Stnuford district, and the club is now thinking of resuming operations here, as the following circular shows:—“The committee of the North Taranaki Hunt intend this season, if sufficient inducement is offered, to extend operations to as fains Stratford, and with this object in view have decided to hold a meeting in your town on Tuesday, February. 20th next, i am therefore instructed to ask If you will kindly assist in this matter by. making the fact known to your friends, and inducing as many of them as possible to attend the meeting, several of tiie meuiuers or my committee will attend, and will explain our intentions regarding the forming of a branch in your district. We will also be pleased to receive any suggestions which may be forthcoming from those present.—A. L. Humphries, lion, sec.” The movement no doubt will receive hearty support from members of the Mounted Rifles/ and also from ladies and gentlemen who may contemplate competing at tho A. aud P. Association’s autumn gymkhana.
