Stratford usually does tilings thoroughly when once thoroughly aroused, as evidenced by the success of her A; and P. Association, Racing Olid), and some other institutions, hut it is a long time since a more enthusiastic gathering. Inis asemblcd in this town •than that which assembled last night to honour the memory of Scotland’s national poet at,the Burns’ Dinner in the, Foresters’ Hall. It was a- big and representative body of Scotsmen and it was unanimously in favour of forming a Scottish’ Society. That is as it should bo. The selection of the now Society’s first officers is a popular one, and the Society is fortunate in securing Mr A. Henderson to act as secretary, for it was largely due to his efforts that a movement in the direction of banding Scotsmen resident in Taranaki in an Association originated, i and it was certainly due to his good work that the function of last night proved so successful.
