IRISH HOME RULE.
CONSERVATIVE THREATS MUST BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. London, January 24 The Ulster Liberal Association states that Mr Winston Churchill’s visit is the outcome of a long-stand-ing invitation. Members of the Association have absorbed all the seating accommodation, and there is none available for the public. As members of the Association are mostly Protestants, the idea that it is a Nationalist gathering is ridiculous. The Association’s committee adopted a resolution expressing its determination to defend their constitutional rights to hold meetings against forces of lawlessness.
Sir Edward Carson, in his speech at Manchester, thought a responsible Minister should have outlined the Irish constitution. He believed the Government did not know themselves what Home Rule was going to be. Every line they wrote had to bo edited by Mr Redmond, who, in turn, was edited by a greater force behind.
Mr Hobhouse, speaking at East Bristol, said the Conservative leaders’ speeches in > Lancashire in the anti-Home Rule campaign contained throats which the Government could only view seriously.
