WELLING TON MEETING
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, January 22. Glorious sunshine ushered in the second day of the W.R.C. summer meeting. "There was an appreciable difference in the attendance compared with the first day. Despite the fact that there were some runaway vic-
tories, the sport provided was of a hign order. The totalisator records for the Wellington meeting were smashed to pieces, tne previous “best” being exceeded in several instances. Tne Wellington Stakes was looked forward to as providing a match between two cracks, Prince Soult and Autumnus, neither of whom had previously met. The northerner could do no better than lin'sh in hftn place, whilst Sir George Clifford’s colt filled second place. Tiie total figures for the day were £35,091, against £14,217 for the corresponding day of last summer meeting. Following are tiie results:— Fitzherbert Handicap, five furlongs. —Stepney, 7.6, 1 ; Merton, 7.6, 2; Obayno 7.13, Neirene 6.13, Submersion 6.11, Daybreak 6.10, Simila 6.7. Merton led into the straight. Then Stepney came out and won by three lengths. Time, Imin 3sec. Douro Cup Handicap, six furlongs.— Heatherbrae, 7.11, 1; Sanguinary, 8.4, 2; Sinapis, 8.11, 3.
