Christchurch, January 22. The Christchurch band contest, held under the auspices of tho South Island Bands’ Association, was opened in the Olympia Rink to-day. Results :

B Flat Bass Solo, gold medal and silver medal, was won by T. Rogers(Lyttelton Marine), 85 points. Gallop (Woolston) 80, T. Cavanagh (Hibernian Invercargill) 70, and T. Williams (Mornington) also competed. E Flat Bass.—W. P. Goughian (Kaikorai) 85, 1; T. Lawrence (Wellington Garrison) 80, 2. Other competitors were: R. Wilson (Woolst 75, T. Pheloung (Oamaru Regimental; 73, A. Hughes (Linwood) 70, G. Irvine (Stanmore) 67, A. Nelson (Mornington) 65, Fitzell (Taranaki Garrison) 60, J. Durham (Hibernian) 55, and T. Childs (Lyttelton Marino) 50. Soprano Solo.—W. Stevenson (Inanganua) 110, 1; P. E. Cole (Wei Hug 88', 2. The other competitors were: W. Francis (Wanganui) 82, C. Moore (Kaikorai) 80, F.
