New York, January 18

An engine exploded in the Coal and Iron Company’s power house in Central City, Kentucky, and killed four persons, and another workman was/ fatally injured. A fire broke out in the packing plant of Scheitartschild and Snlbergor, Chicago. Firemen confined the outbreak to. one building, which was destroyed.

An explosion of gas wrecked a number of houses in the poorer quarters of Cincinnati. Seven families arc unaccounted for. The cause of the explosion is unascertained.
