Tho Taiyuan has arrived from the East and been quarantined on account of an outbreak of smallpox during the voyage. INTENSE HEAT. Melbourne, January 16. The heat is intense in the country. Melbourne, January 16. Referring to the cable regarding reciprocity with Canada, Mr Fisher declared he was unable to indicate how far the negotiations had proceeded. They had not passed the stage of inquiry. A LUCKY ESCAPE. Melbourne, January 16. During a storm at Orange, lightning shattered all tho windows on one sidvof two carriages of a train. The passengers were not hurt. WIII EL ESS INFRINGEMENTS. Melbourne, January 16. The Australian agent of tho Marconi Company has issued a writ against tho Huddart Parker Company, claiming an infringement of the Marconi patents on ships in Victorian waters by using the tolefunkcr. The agent stated his instructions to issue a writ ware received from Great Britain. Similar action will bo taken in Non Zealand against tho Huddart Parker Co. apd tho New Zealand Government. Mr Fisk, tho agent, referring to statements regarding Marconi’s ration against Siemens Bros., said art action was commenced for infringement of only one patent. This was withdrawn in order to institute a fresh action, now proceeding.
