ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.

A Chinese lanmlryman named Hoong On was found shot "When his customers called and found the premises locked, a window was opened, and the Chinaman was found lying in the kitchen dead. He had placed a revolver, fully loaded, in his mouth, and fired, the roof of Ids mouth being shattered. Death must have been instantaneous. No reason is assigned for the deed except that deceased complained of his health. Napier, January 17. Frank Hargreaves, the shunter who was severely injured by being run over by two railway trucks at Port Ahurin this morning’, died in the hospital this afternoon. Christchurch, January 17. At the inquest on Geo. Win. Hobbs, a furrier, who dropped dead in the street this morning, a verdict, based on the evidence adduced, was returned that death was due to heart disease. Gore, January 17. A shocking accident occurred on the Racecourse road this afternoon. An agent of the Southland Farmers’ Cooperative Association, Edward Smith, was riding a motor bicycle, and collided head on with a motor-car. It appears that the rider was "on the wrong side of the road, which is in bad order. He attempted to cross, with the result that Smith collided violently with the car, apparently on the left side. He was picked up unconscious and bleeding profusely from an extensive cut over the left eye, and was removed to town. The bicycle is a total wreck. Smith’s condition isi thought to l)e serious, but how serious is not ascertainable in the meantime. Gore, January IS. Smith is improving.
