Other contracts let wdl be started at once.
General.—As instructed, information has been collected in regard to road rollers, and is now before you. 1 have inspected the site of the suggested deviation of Opunake Road No. 2, and estimate that the cost of same would be about £2OO, inclusive of land compensation and fencing. Crushing operations are at present proceeding at York Road, after which the Salisbury Road work will be carried out, and tne plant then moved to West Riding. A road plough is badly needed, and I recommend that the Council procure one straight aAvay. Cr. Smith thought that the report re the Opunake Road No. 2 would be valuable at some future date, but it was impossible to carry out at pre- ' sent. The Engineer explained that some of the work had already been done, though not much money had been expended. Cr. Anderson thought the deviation would make a good road. It whs decided to defer consideration of the deviation, but the engineer was instructed to go on with the raising and filling. Cr.. Anderson thought they had work for a road plough, and moved that the Council procure one. Cr. Walter seconded the motion. Cr. Thomson moved that the motion be held over, till they saw how the scarifier worked. Cr. Smith thought the plough was to be used in conjunction with the scarifier. _ , ■ The Engineer stated that if they were going in for the road roller they would not need it. But as it could not be got before six months at the earliest, they would have to borrow a plough to do work that had to be done immediately... The amendment was lost, and the motion carried. During the month a wash-out occurred on the Monmouth Road, the culverts being too small. Cr. Thomson 1 explained the position, and it was decided to hold the matter over for the present. The Engineer’s,.., report was then adopted as amended. Riding Foremen’s Reports. The Riding Foremen report as follows:—V(. The metalled portion of this end of the road is completely worn out, and not a yard of maintenance metal on it anywhere to patch it with. The Beaconsficld Road also requires about 30 to 40 cubic yards of maintenance near the north end of my length. ...... _ , Tho Chairman moved that the Itasfc Riding members confer with the settlers with regard to Ahuroa Road, to report at next meeting.
