ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.

(Tor Press Association.) Christchurch, January 12. Tho annual gala at New Brighton, which was held yesterday, ended with a fatality. An enormous crowd had gone to the, seaside, and the late trams hack to town, were rushed. George Palethorpc, head waiter at Warner’s Hotel, tried to board a trailer on a moving train on the wrong side. The gate was shut, and Palethorpe was knocked off the step by a nolo carrying tho overhead construction. He fell under a second trailer of the same tram, the wheels cutting off his left leg and arm. He died in the hospital this morning. He was married and Lad throe children.
