CONCLUSION OF THE HOBART CONFERENCE. MANY IMPORTANT MOTIONS. (Received 13, 10.20 a.m.) Hobart, January 13. The conference has concluded. Mr. Fisher moved for the formation of a Federal executive. He said that sometimes conflicts arose between the Federal and State parties, and no body ■existed to intervene. A majority were in favour, but not the nccessay number to carry the motion. The Victorian motion that in order to give effect to the New Protection, the Federal Government legalise eighty-four days’ work for all wageearners, to bo reduced when found necessary by the presence of unemployed, was lost without division. A motion that ;f the referendum is successful a universal day of rest should be established in mines, factories, and workshops on Sunday was not carried. The relative positions in the places of the fighting platform were altered. White Australia was placed first, then maintenance of the land tax, referenda, New Protection, nationalisation of monopolies, arbitration amendment, navigation, Commonwealth freight and passenger steamers, restriction of public borrowing, general insurance, establishment of sugar refineries. A motion that nobody enrolled under the Defence Act be compelled to bear arms against workers engaged in industrial disputes was carried.
