UNIONS’ EXCESSIVE DEMANDS

Coastal steamship owners announce that owing to the excessive demands made by the labour unions they have decided to increase the fares and freights, and in the event of the men’s Further demand being granted, additional increases will be necessary. NATIONAL STRIKE FAVOURED. (Received 12, 9 a.m.) London, January 10. All tho ballots of the Miners’ Federation show overwhelming majorities in favour of a national strike. THE GERMAN COLLIERS. (Received 12, 9.40 a.m.) Berlin, January 11. The “Westphalischer” denies the statement that the German miners are arranging a sympathetic strike. WOOL COMBERS RESUME. London, January 11. Miss Bury, a non-unionist weaver, was hounded out of Groat Harwood, and her effigy burned. The strike at Great Harwood was due to her employment. WHARF LABOURERS’ STRIKE.
