FIRE IN WALL STREET.

IN A NINE-STOREY MARBLE - BUILDING. MAN GETS CAUGHT IN A VAULT. THREE MEN KILLED. (Received 10, 12.10 p.m.) New York, January 9. A nine-storey marble building occupied by the Equitable Life Assurance Society and other great commercial corporations, was destroyed by fire. Three men were killed by leaping from the roof. Deputy Fire Chief Walsh is believed to he dead, in the ruins. The President of the State Deposit Company took refuge in the vaults, and is unable to be released. The loss to property -exceeds one million sterling. Walsh was standing on the upper floor, when it crashed down. Other firemen clung to the window-ledge, and won* rescued, hut Walsh disappeared. The fire occurred in the heart of the financial district of Wall Street, and brokers congregated in hundreds to watch the blaze. It will bo necessary to saw through the iron bars before rescuers ran reach President Goblin in the vault.
