ALARMING EXPERIENCE.
A waitress named Nellie Brown in the employ of J. H. Pagni, licensee oi die British Hotel Auckland, had a uost alarming experience recently. She took down a tin, the label of which indicated that the contents consisted of electro-plating powder, with the intention of using the powder on some cutlery. The result not proving satisfactory, she took down a frseh tin. when, so it is stated, the cover of the tin blew off with a loud report, and the contents were scattered over the girl’s face and hair,, her eyes being painfully injured by the powder. The unfortunate girl’ rolled on tne floor in her agony, and her screams attracted the attention of Mrs Pagni, who went to the girl’s assistance, and wined her eyes with a damp towel, ’The girl was taken to her bedroom and was shortly afterwards attended by Drs. King and Pabst. It was feared, at first that she would lose her sight, and on the morning of December 31st she was removed to a private hospital. On inquiries being made last evening it was found that girl is improving, and although she has been suffering much pain it is now considered there is no likelihood that the sight of her eyes will bo lost. The cook at the hotel states that she heard in explosion at the time of the accident, and thought it was a gas explosion. The powder was scattered a good distance, some of it being found oPthe shelves where the dishes were kept.
