CASTAWAYS’ HARDSHIPS. Sydney, January 5. The Ask ay castaways have arrived in Sydney. Describing their tyring experiences they stated that they spent live days and nights in open boats, which wore leaking to such an extent that it was necessary for a map to hail continuously. The morning after the Askay struck the crew sent a deputation to the captain asking him to aoandon the ship. He refused. A second and third deputation were likewise refused. Melbourne, January 5. | The Governor-General has informed Mr. Fisher that owing to the New South Wales Government taking over Government House he would he unable to live in Sydney. He must have an official residence if for no other reason than it was necessary in the event of the King or the Prince of Wales visiting Australia.
