The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 30, 1911. THE NEW YEAR.

Another year lias nearly rolled away, and before our next issue 1912 willhave started 1 its career of hope and promise. The year that is passing lias been a good one for this iDpiniuinn, though strenuous in par. and trade and commerce have grown and developed. From this latter point of view, New Zealand in general, and Taranaki in particular, have little to complain of. Latterly the weather, all-pervading and continuously unseasonable, has caused some misgivings as to the chances of crops and the effect on stock, but it is not too late for a good recovery if the New Year will only prove more sunny and less tearful than the old friend .who is leaving us. There arc certainly clouds on the political horizon, hut they, too, should he dispelled, and we may quite reasonably look forward to a year as prosperous as its predecessor, in the twelve months that are coming. The young year’s birthday will be celebrated in Stratford by the Racing Chib’s Annual Meeting, which promises to he the Chib’s biggest and host effort, and visitors from far and near are already flocking to town, fine weather is all that is wanted to make the first day of January, 1912, a memorable one in the Club’s career. Quite rightly, and properly, this is a season of play and festivity, when everyone is bent upon enjoyment, and all endeavour to put aside, for a little while at least, the cares and worries of business life. It is a time for the interchange of greetings and good wishes, and wo therefore may he permitted to sincerely wish all our readers a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.
