TOKO ROAD NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Since mv last notes we have had Christmastide and it has brought with it its joys and sorrows. It lias been rather a dull Christmas with us here, owing to the passing away nt one of our highly respected settlers, in the person of Mrs. J. O Connoi, which was so sudden— only the matter of a few hours. It came as a shock to all who knew her, and cast onite a gloom over the distnet. Mi. O’Connor has the deepest sympathy of the whole district, being left with live small children to mourn then S ' consequence of the above the school children’s concert which was to have taken place in the Hal on the 21st was postponed, and the children’s prizes were handed to them at the breaking-up of the school, by the chairman of the School Committee CMr E. Marfell), every child attending the school receiving a prize according to merit. On Sunday (Xmas eve) the Sundayschool children were each . presented with a nrizo by Mr. tv S. Emg, LMv who held a children’s service on Oku. date. I think the children of this district have been well catered tor this Christmas. Another rather pleasant ceremony took place at our creamery on Xmas morn.* At eight o’clock Mr. J. Gardner mounted the receiving stage, and on behalf of the suppliers, presented the manager (Mr. T. A. Bocock) with a lovely case of end m doing so expressed the good feeling that existed between suppliers and manager. Mr. Bocock, who was taken by surprise, thanked those present, voi the nice present, and stated it was always Ids desire to do his duty to all concerned, and he said he would never forgot the settlors of J oko Bond for their kindness. Now, Mr. Editor, while all those events are taking, place, the rain in playing its part in go A d force, think this season holds the record for ’•ain. The farmers are beginning to look hard at their hay crops, and wonder. T will take this opportunity, Mr. Editor, of wishing yon and vonrs a Bright and Prosperous New Year.
