LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The Commissioner of Police is visiting New Plymouth, having arrived from Waitara yesterday. Mr W. Lovett has disposed of his interest in the Commercial Hotel to .Mrs Solomon, of Wellington, who takes possession early in the New Year. The next steamer to load at the Waitara roadstead will be the New Zealand Shipping Co.’s Opawa, on or about the 10th of January, 1912. The total amount of gate money taken at the Elthnm Carnival was £212 19s, being about £-30 less than hist year, says the “Argus,” The falling-off was most noticeable on the first day's amount, which was £144 17s, there being less difference in the second day’s amount in comparison, ft must be remembered, of course, that the 1910 meeting was a record one in regard to attendance.
Whangamomona’s need of a doctor was again in evidence yesterday. Mrs Sullivan, wife of Mr CL Sullivan, who has been working in the tunnel, was brought into Stratford for medical attention through confinement which happened some eleven days ago, the child dying two days after birth. Mrs Sullivan had to be carried through the tunnel in a stretcher in order to catch the train for Stratford at the 33-mile siding.
