CATHOLICS AND THE ELECTION.
o AN ALLEGATION DENIED

Dunedin, December 23
Interviewed this morning in regard to the alleged exercise locally of the Catholic vote on behalf of Ministerial candidates Father Coffey gave it an absqlute and unqualified denial. In respect to the allegation concerning the election of Mr Millar ho said that no single elector belonging to his church had been seen on behalf of the Minister by any priest or official of the church. He pointed out that when he referred in church to the general election he strongly advised all electors to vote for the men whom they believed could best represent the country. Not a single candidate’s name was mentioned in any of their churches.
