Sydney, December 21. Five youths have been arrested in connection with the fire at the Woolloonioolloo school. The Christmas festival was observed in the usual way. The increases in the wages of tramwaymon, which have just come into force, represent an annual addition of £7O, OOt). The Norwegian schooner Oberon, hound from Peru to Newcastle, signalled off Cape Hawke that ail the crow are ill and a mate and a sailor died during the voyage. The schooner is short of supplies, and asked that a tug with provisions he supplied. A tug has been sent to her aid. A report to hand from Noumea states that Great Britain and Franco are seriously discussing the question of the division of the New Hebrides. Perth, .December 21. The three supposed small-pox cases on the steamer Manderoo, which arrived the other day from Singapore, have been diagnosed as chicken-pox. The coal lumpers’ trouble at Fremantle still continues, 'and the wharves are idle. The Parliamentary session has closed. The Assembly declined to accept the Council’s to the Arbitration Bill, and as .the Council stood firm the .Bill was thrown out. The Attorney-General declared that the, Council, having declined to accept a tribunal to ensure peace, the responsibility for any industrial upheaval that might arise rested upon it. A very hot morning was followed by heavy rain, partially spoiling the holiday.
