OPENING OF NEW ZEALAND

CHAM LIONS H IPS

Christchurch, December 23

The twenty-sixth annual New Zealand lawn tonus championship meeting opened this morning at Lancaster Park in dull but fairly favourable weather. A strong easterly breeze was blowing, but as its direction was practically down the courts, a.id not across, it did not cause any great inconvenience. The wind, however, grew chilly and disagreeable as the day wore on. Four courts we-e provided, and these were in good order, though not fast. Following are the results;—

Man’s Singles Championship. (Present champion—J. C. Peacock, Wellington). First Round— J. C. Peacock, won by default. F. P. Wilson, won by default.
