HIS POSITION DISCUSSED BY CABINET. A CHANGE IMPERATIVE. Sydney, December 25. A lengthy meeting of Cahint was held on Saturday, at which Mr. Willis was present, and discussed with Ministers the difficulty which has arisen over the Speakership. Interviewed subsequently to tlie meeting, Mr. Willis declined to disclose the nature of the proceedings. It is, however, believed that as the result of the meeting Cabinet has given Mr. Wilks to understand that the present position of affairs in the Assembly must not continue. MUST NOT CONTINUE. Sydney, December 25. It is believed that as a result of Saturday’s meeting Cabinet lias given Mr. Speaker Willis to understand that the present position of affairs in the Assembly must not continue,. A DEADLOCK. Sydney, December 26. It is. reported that Saturday’s Cabinet meeting ended'in a deadlock, Mr. Willis declining the Government’s request to resign. Nothing can bo done till the House reassembles. THE SPEAKER IS SILENT. (Received 27, 10.25 a.m.) Sydney, December 27. Mr. Willis denies that the Govern-

ment requested his resignation. Ho declines to say what transpired at the Cabinet meetinga ttended by him.
