THE CONFERENCE SUSPENDED

(Received 21, 9.30 a.m.) - ■ Pekin, December 20. The Peace Conference has been suspended. Wu-’l mg—Fang insisted that a republic was the only possible basis of settlement. Tang-Shan-Yi replied that lie must refer the matter to Pekin. The armistice lias been prolonged another week.

THE LEGATIONS PLEAD

Pekin, December 20. The Legations sent messages to the akin conference urging friendly settlement in the interest of Chinn and the foreigners.
