COUNTY FINANCE.
SPECIAL MEETING TO BE HELD
NEW SYSTEM DESIRED
The finance system under which the County Council works was _ roundly condemned by Councillor Waller at yesterday’s meeting of the Council. Ho found himself in the position of being forced ,to vote against a proposal to metal a new road because be believed that new work should he done out of loan money, and not out of the general rates. Ho told the Chairman that lie would, as time went on, bo worried by finance, just as his predecessor had been. Each year the Council struck a rate, but they had nc idea of what expenditure would have to bo made. He thought a system could bo devised by which estimates could bo prepared beforehand, and some attempt made to bring the finances to a sound condition. Later, Councillor Waller embodied his views in a resolution, and moved that a committee bo set up consisting of the Chairman, Crs. Smith, Cristoffel, and Waller to devise a system to keep the finance of the County Council under control. The Chairman considered that li would mean, a rs-organistion of the works scheme bv the engineer.
Cr. Smith said that the old custom was to linvo the foreman submit estimates of the work done on the roads Or. Waller: “We have nothing of that done now.” Several members expressed the opinion that in regard to finance, the Council did not know where it was. An amendment was put that a special meeting of the Council be held instead of the committee, and this on a division was carried. The date was fixed for January 10th.
YOUR CHANGE IS NOW!
It is exceptional and unique that tiio whole of a Splendid Stock like ROBiNSON’S, at Manchester House, should bo offering to keen buyers at from to 35 par cent discount for cash. Why is it? Why 7, simple, the weather conditions of the season have been most unfavourable to the sale of summer goods, and the Robinsons have determined to “Shoot thorn out MOW” and give their many friends and customers a Christinas and New Year offering, the like of which has never been known in the district before. As usual, lhay are on tha job with a genuine sale. It’s a moral, it will be straight, and everybody will lie more than satisfied with the bargains procurable at Robinson’s Manchester House.*
