OBSCENE LANGUAGE.
WOMEN IN THE COUNTRY TO BE PROTECTED.
A FINE OF TEN POUNDS,
At the Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Mr. C. D. Sole, J.P., Lawrence Hennessay was charged with using obscene language on election night in the main street of Whangamomona. Sergeant McNeeley handed tho Bench a written acknowledgment of the offence, and Constable Liston gave evidence that the words, which were particularly vile, had been used in the presence of ladies in a loud voice. 'Hie Bench requested the “Post representative to take special notice of tho matter. “The women at Whangamomona,” he said, “are going to bo protected as well as the women in the big centres. The language was simply vile.” He would find accused £lO and costs, in default three months in New Plymouth prison.
