Couvmicr, a peasant, was imprisoned for .twenty years for poaching. After his release; armed with. a gun and a razor, he went to tlie families responsible for bis conviction, shut the husband and wife of ono family in a room and cut their throats. He then rowed to tlie other house, shot and killed a hoy of sixteen and his mother, and seriously wounded the father.

After eating a hearty meal, lie cycled to the police station and asked to he arrested as the murderer.
