(Per Press Association.) Auckland, December 16. At the Supreme Court Percy Bathurst, for breaking and entering at Morriusville, was sentenced to one year’s hard labour. At the Police Court, William H. Walker, third officer of the steamer Morayshire, was charged with having cigars, tobacco, and a pair of lady’s hoots, uncustomed goods, in his possession. He was fined £27, three times the value of the goods, the tine being reduced to £3. News from Raratonga reports that an native woman named Rongomate was shot dead on December 3rd. Her husband, Noongo, was arrested on suspicion. At the enquiry, conducted by the medical officer, the jury found that death was caused by a gunshot wound received in her house, nobody being present except deceased and her husband: there was no direct evidence whether the gun was discharged accidentally or intentionally.
