On Friday, Bth hist., I held a successful sale of pedigree and grade Jerseys on account of Mr. A. Hodgkinson, Takaka, Nelson. The cattle were in very fair condition, considering the rough trip up and the. driving about. Bidding was keen for all female stock, but the bulls did not meet with much competition. The top price, 65 guineas, was paid by Mr. C. Goodson, of Hawera, for the pedigree cow “Silver May,” and the cow “Sweet Pea XU.” went to the same purchaser at 57 guineas. Other prices realised for pedigrees were : Cows 26 to 53gns, 2 year heifers 26 V to 39 gns, yearling heifers 16. Vto 28 .V gns., heifer calves 9 to 13* gns., hulls 8 to 19 gns, yearling hulls 3.V to 13V gns, grade cows £8 15s, grade heifers £3 10s to £9 ss, grade yearling bull £2 15s.
At ITremii on Monday I had a good yarding at my fortnightly sale, and a good attendance of the public. Bidding was best for 18 monti steers and 2 year heifers, 15 to IS month steers made £2 16s to £2 18s, 15 to IS month heifers (grade) £2 12s to £2 14s. A pen of 15 month grade Jersey heifers met with very keen competition, and realised £4 12s 6d, empty 2 year heifers £4 to £4 6s, 2 year heifers (Holsteins, empty) £4 18s, 2 year steers £4 4s, 3 year bullocks £5 19s. store cows £2 to £2 10s, forward cows £3 11s to £4 6s, springing cows £5 16s to £6, springing heifers £5 10s to £6, hulls £3 18s to £6 10s. My next Urenui sale will be held on Monday, Bth January, 1912. On Tuesday in my, Stratford springing heifer yards I had a good entry but got very little enquiry as most of those offered were backward. Early calvers made £3 to; £5 15s, springing cows £5 to £7. On the same day at my ordinary Stratford sale I had a good muster and an improved attendance, notwithstanding tiie wretched weather; 15 to 18-montii steers and heifers met with good competition at the hammer, and sold at better values than at recent sales. Two pons of good-conditioned 3-year bullocks sold under the hammer at £6 3s, mixed yearlings (poor) 21s to 355, 15 to 18-month heifers £2 10s to £3 3s 6d, 15 to 18-month steers £2 12s 6d to £3 3s, empty 2-year heifers (poor) £3 10s, 2-year steers £4 2s 6d, store cows 31s 6d to £2 16s, forward cows £3 10s to £4 5s 6d, fat cows £4 17s 6d to £6 3s, fat heifers £4 16s, bulls £2 to £3, grade Holstein bulls £4 7s 6d to £5.
At Stoney River on Wednesday I had a good yarding of good-condition-ed cattle. The inquiry was good for 15 to 18-month steers and heifers and for 2-year steers. Bidding was also good for store cattle; 15 to IS month steers £2 11s to £3 0s Od, 15 to_ 18month heifers £2 15s to, £3 Bs, 15 to 18-month mixed £3 0s Od, 2-year empty heifers £3 19s to £4 , ,Is, 2-year steers £3 14 s to £4 ss, store cows £2 3s to £3 15s, forward cows £3 17s to £4 3s, fat cows £4 15s to £5 Is, springing cows £7 ss, hulls £1 to £7, wean'di- pigs 7s, store pigs; 13s.
