The Treasurer’s financial statement says the dry season in the eastern agricultural districts necessitated extra expenditure for water supply. This prevented the Government collecting conditional purchase rents amounting to £22,000. The revenue for the past year was £3,850,440, and the expenditure £3,734,000. _ After wiping out the deficit with which the year opened there is a balance of £13,399. He estimated next year’s deficit at £104,402. It is intended to introduce graduated land tax and income tax.
