BRITISH SAILORS.
COMPLIMENTED BY HAVELOCK WILSON.
LONG PEACE HOPED FOR,
(Received 14, 9.40 a.m.) Perth, December 14. Mr. Havelock Wilson, interviewed, said he hoped the recent maritime strike had secured industrial peace in the British mercantile marine for a long time. The recognition of the unions alone constituted a splendid victory. It took him two years to organise the strike. Ho addressed over a thousand meetings. Regarding riots, the presence and action of troops was quite justified. Referring to British sailors, ho said they wore better than ever. They were a different type to the old sailing ship days, hut dust as at work.
