Dingle (in the chair), RMasters, S .Porritt, J. D. Healy, F. Dobson, G. Hobbs, G. Songster, D. Malone, and W. P. Kirkwood. A Euii’s Eligibility. A letter was received from Mr T. Lyford in reply to a communication from the Association asking him to furnish proof that his yearling bull Admiral De Kol, which had been awarded first prize in the pedigree Holstein class was eligible for the Herd Book. He stated that the vendor of the bull had imformed him previous to sale that the bull would bo put in the No. 1 Herd Book when Mr Greig returned from England. It was eligible for the No. 2 Herd Book. Mr Greig was the owner of the mother of this bull. Both Mr Dalgety and Mr Lovelock had stated during the sale that the hull was eligible for the No. 1 Herd Book. It was decided that the secretary write to Air Lyford requesting him communicate with the Holstein Breeders’ Association with a view to furnishing tho Association with proof of the bull’s eligibility. A Mistaken Efoticn. Mr Charles Ruscoe wrote stating that ho understood it was proposed to withhold the special prize, given by the Stratford Racing Club and won by his yearling colt, on tho ground that there was not sufficient competition. He protested against this, as there was nothing in the conditions to tho above effect . Ho showed the colt in good faith expecting that tho special prize would be given and that others were afraid to show was no reason why lie should be penalised. He asked for fair play. It was stated that there were no conditions' of that sort obtaining to tho competition and the executive had never considered withholding the prize. Mr R. Masters moved and Mr F. Dobson seconded that Mr Ruscoc lie awarded tho prize. This was carried. Entries Refunded, Mr H. Austine wrote requesting tjiat tho caches be refunded on exhibits shown by Mrs Austine which had arrived late and had not been judged. It was decided to comply with the request. Holstein Catilo.
In answer to r, communication from the Association to Mr Barribald, the judge in Holstein section, asking him if -lie -thought the animals in these classes were of sufficient merit to bo awarded a third prize, Mr Barribald replied distinctly in the affirmative. He said this question had been asked of him by one of the stewards and he had gone back and awarded a third prize to a two-year-old heifer and a young yearling bull. it was explained that previous to this Messrs Tuner, of Eltham, exhibiting in the Shorthorn section, and Mr Johnston, of Hawera, exhibiting liolsteins, had tied for Mr Petrie’s cup for the highest number of-points scored in the cattle classes', and the two third prizes awarded ih the Holffitoins ’ Had: been! lost sight of. These /wJuki have given ; Mr Johnston the clip, 1 but since one of ,his .animals had.been shown in these classes and was therefore disqualified, Sir Turner wins the cup outright, this being his second win in succession. ,An Exhibitor’s Mistake.
A letter was received from Mr Henry Johnson complaining that ho had seen Mr F. J. Johnston’s yearling pedigree Holstein heifer, “Butter Girl," being shown in three distinct classes in all of which she won tho first, prize. it was decided that the secretary write, to Mr Johnston informing him Chat, the rules of the Association did not permit of an animal being shown in more than one class, except in tho uutter fat competition. Shsep Stewards’ Report.
The stewards in charge of the sheep section at the 1911 shoiv reported as follows:
Pens.—The necessity for suitable and permanent pens siiould he considered at an early date in order that tiie same may bo built in time for next show. The inconvenience /of temporary pens made with hurdles is so great as to militate against the efficient judging and handling of the exhibits and as a result thereof exhibitors have not tho pleasure of prompt penning and satisfaction which would be apparent with proper accommodation. Primarily, the sheep stewards urgently recommend that Spur and permanent pens bo built ore next show.
Catalogue.—A number of entries were received and penned which were not in the catalogue. The stewards recognise that this is to some extent unavoidable, but they consider such entries should be kept as low as possible for the following reasons: The catalogue is, thereby made incorrect and consequently the public are misled and the work of the stewards is increased qnd made more difficult. The stewards recommend that all entries in purebred classes should state the flock book number of such sheep entered. Class 185.—The judge pointed out the difficulty of awarding a prize to lambs when no special breed or conditions were required.
Classes 219 and 215 (pens of two owes). —The catalogue should show the breeding of exhibits. The stewards wished place on record their appreciation'of the good feeling expressed by exhibitors, the efficient attention of the Railway Department and the entirely satisfactory finish of the working of the sheep section without loss or damage to any of the exhibitors.
The report was adopted General.
It was decided to insure the horse and hull pens, on the motion of Air Kirkwood seconded by Air Porritt. General satisfaction was expressed at the good work done by the caretaker, Air E. Newland, and it was unanimously decided that lie be granted a bonus of tea guineas.
