KING INTERVIEWS VETERAN SOLDIERS.

Delhi, December 12

After the presentation of the colours the King walked down a double line of eight hundred veterans, and conversed with the men for half an hour, handling their medals and enquiring as to their identity. It was an affecting sight to see old, bent men trying to straighten themselves to salute.

The King’s action was the more appreciated because ho had previously stood for an hour.

Tho Queen, in acknowledging the presentation of jewels from tiie women of India, thanked tho Sisterhood' of India for the gentle greeting of sincere homage. She added that she learned with deep satisfaction of the evolution that was gradually and surely taking place amongst the inmates of the Purdah.

The Durbar was a superb success, and the most gorgeous and stirring spectacle in the history of Hindustan. The King-Emperor had a magnificent reception ,and was greeted with thunders of applause from 100,000 subjects, amid a scene of regal splendour. A brilliant procession of ruling princes paid homage to the King-Em-peror, and thereafter the Coronation proclamation was read. A list of boons was announced, and the Durbar closed with a tremendous outburst of loyal enthusiasm and cheers for their Majesties, and the National Anthem was sung.
