PROFESSIONAL CARNIVAL

Sydney, December 10

At the swimming carnival the Allcomers’ professional championship, of 440 yards, was won by Dickmau ,1, Rarrower 2, Read 3. Time, smin 51 2-ssec.

In the ladies’ world challenge, of 410 yards, Miss Tate defeated Miss Liddle. Time, 7min' 21sec. In tiie All-comers’ 220 yards championship, Dickman was first, Read second, and Harrower third. Time, 2min 33sec. THE STRATFORD CLUB’S ANNUAL REPORT. GOOD POSITION SHOWN. The following is the report to be presented for adoption at the annual meeting of the Stratford Amateur Swimming Club to be held next Tuesday evening Your committee takes great pleasure in being able to furnish to the Club its annual report upon the highly successful result of their last season’s efforts.

The official opening took place on December Ist, and was largely attended, various events (comic and otherwise) being successfully got off.

On January 31st a novelty was introduced to Stratford spectators in the form of a night carnival—the,first ever held in Stratford. It proved a huge success, both from /the spectators’' and club’s point of view, resulting in a profit of £G 7s 6d. The racing was very keenly contested throughout, each race witnessing a record number Of 1 starters.' In the 50 yards open handicap; out of 32 entrants 27 faced the starter, which necessitated soyen .heats,, a semi-final, a,ad a final , swim. After the carnival i-ige visitors Were entertained at a supper, ; which they'highly appreciated. 1 The i electric light.; was.iinstalled i in the baths by the Club at a total cost of £4 18s 7d (arc lights being borrowed). The season was closed with afternoon;. [sports,; comprising’ local, club events and boys’ and girls’ races. Considerable amusement was afforded the public by the use of a punt on the chute and exhibitions of the Corfu dive. Several prizes having been donated, a profit of 15s lOd resiilted. The membership for the season was the largest yet attained by the Club -r-viz., 48 (financial members). The balance-sheet for the season shows a profit of £8 17s 6d.
