DESTROYED BY FIRE. (Per Press Association.) Napier, December 9. The seven-roomed residence of Arthur McCarthy,- in Chaucer Road, was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. Indications point to a defective chimney being Die '•ause. The building was insured for £4OO in the Sun Oirice, and for £SO in the Royal, the furniture being insured for £2OO in the Royal. RUN OVER BY A TRAIN. Auckland, December 9. A Maori named Raha, employed with the re-laying gang, was run over by the early goods train near Kimihia Siding this morning. Death was instantaneous. MORE IMMIGRANTS ARRIVE. Wellington, December 9. J The Tongariro arrived from London early this morning, with 3GS immigrants. She leaves for Dunedin this evening. A FATAL COLLISION. Hastings, December 9. Percy Todson, aged 11, collided with a motor car whilst lading a bicycle in Market Street this morning and was killed instantaneously. The boy was riding a zigzag course. He was struck by the car on the left side of the body and severely- crushed. The car was travelling at six miles an hour.
