Sydney, December 4. A deputation of the Evangelical Council asked Mr McGowen, Premier, to legislate- against boxing contests, which, they declared, .were nothing more nor less than prize fights. A special board has bean constituted to deal with the wharf laborers’ dispute, and has commenced work. Counsel for the Inter-State Steamship Owners contended that existing conditions were not being observed by the men, and no claims wore before the board in a legal way, and announced that it was intended to fight the matter step by step. Judge Scholes, president, overruled the objections, and said he intended to sit until the work was done, and proceeded to the consideration of claims. Melbourne, December 4.
