DEATH FROM HEART FAILURE. (Per Press Association.) Hawera, November 28. John Frost, single, aged 46, dropped dead in the yard of the Commercial Hotel, Manaia, on Monday afternoon. Deceased suffered from court disease. He is believed to have relatives in Sydenham, Christchurch. HOTEL BURNED DOWN. Christchurch, November 28. The Terminus Hotel, Otira, owned and occupied by Jas. O’Malley, was burned to the ground early on Sunday morning. One man was badly hurt in getting out, and was removed to the hospital. The boarders lost practically everything they possessed, the losers including the postmaster and stationmaster, both relieving, and Dr. Cairns and family. The building and furniture were valued at £SOOO, and are understood to bo insured for £IOOO in the State Office. AN OPENED LOVE-LETTER. Auckland, November 28. At the Supreme Court, Charles Berry Simmonds, found guilty of opening circulars and suffering a young woman’s love-letter to be opened by a railway porter disappointed in his suit, was brought up for sentence. The prisoner was a cadet in the Hikurangi Post Office. He was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, and warned as to his future behaviour. Joel Victor Rowley, railway porter, who admitted opening the love-letter in question, was ordered to come up for sentence when.called upon. Both prisoners were informed that they would be expected to pay the costs of the prosecution. BOYCOTTING NON-UNIONISTS. Gisborne, November 29. At a meeting of the Gisborne Driv-j ers’ Union a motion was carried unanimously instructing the delegates to the Trades Councils of New Zealand to recommend the setting up of a committee to institute a systematic boycott of firms employing non-unionists in the carrying on of their businesses.
