“CORNERING” MR MINE.
(To the Editor “Stratford Post.”) • Sir, —There appeared in your issue of the 22nd instant a brief report of Mr Mine’s meeting at Midhirst on the 21st instant, which stated that “quite a number of questions were asked by strong Liberal supporters with the object of cornering Mr Hino, and they came a good last.” Sounds quite racy! 1 would be very pleased, Mr Editor, if you would be kind enough to publish some of the questions with the answers that Mr Mine gave to them at his meeting. It appears to me that your correspondent’s faculty of judgment is not very well developed. Mr Mine answered several questions which showed that he was most inconsistent. When asked if the Government had dealt effectively with trusts and combines in the past, he said; “They had not.” In answer to another question ho admitted they had, by saying that State Insurance, State advances to settlers, and State coal mines had proved beneficial to the community. When asked if he was in favour of State competition with private enterprise, for the purpose of checking the latter, he stated that “he was not in favour of the State interfering with private enterprise.” Mr Mine admits at one moment that State competition has proved beneficial in the past, and the next moment he states we must not institute such beneficial measures in the future. What do you think of him ? Reform Party! “The rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” —I am, etc., ANOTHER THINKER. Midhirst, Nov. 27th.
