In the Supreme Court William Rogers and Maud Rogers, found guilty in connection with tho burglary at Kohn’s and the theft of jewellery, came up for sentence. The male accused asserted that his wife believed that lie came by the goods honestly. Ho pleaded that she had suffered enough. She had been seven months in gaol and had been subjected to tho awful third degree in America. Mr .justice Chapman sentenced William Rogers to five years’ imprisonment and four years’ detention for reformative purposes and Maud Rogers to two years’ imprisonment and two years’ reformative treatment.

In divorce Mr Justice Edwards granted a decree nisi in Ernest Campbell Denny v. Annie Mabel Denny for misconduct with George White. Napier, November 27. A severe shock of earthquake was experienced at 5 o’clock this morning. Hastings, November 27. There was a severe earthquake at five past one this morning, the direction being north-west and south-east. Ekctahuna, November 27. Parker, sawmiller, Kaiparoro, was badly injured on Saturday. A wire rope broke, and tho end struck him across tho face. Ho has boon unconscious since, and his condition is serious.
