The returns for the long jump event have now readied the lion, secretary of the Taranaki Rugby Union, and the following is the result: —Carroll (Stratford) 16ft. 6in., 40 marks, Ist ; Crone (New Plymouth) 16ft. pin., 30 marks, 2nd; Bacon (New Plymouth) loft. 2in., 25 marks, 3rd. The following boys also reached the standard, gaining 20 marks each:— Campbell (Stratford) 14ft 7.)in., Pennington (Ngaire) 14ft. Tin.. Day (New Plymouth) 14ft. 7in., Vickers (Stratford) 14ft; 2in., Coutts (Tariki) 13ft. lOin.
The following boys have qualified for the athletic part of the scholarship: Carroll (Stratford) 225 marks, Crono (New Plymouth) 200 marks, Bacon (New Plymouth) 120 marks, Campbell (Stratford) 90 marks, Vickers (Stratford) 90 marks, Pennington (Ngaire) 90, Day (New Plymouth) 80 marks. . ' The outstanding features of tins year’s competitions are the excellent performances put up by Carroll and Crone. The maximum number of marks obtainable in the athletic competition is 305.
