THOSE DAIRY REGULATIONS.
(To the Editor “Stratford Post.”) Sir, —1 have waited very patiently for some weeks and have carefully scanned all reports of Mr J. B. Hine’s N meetings in the hope that ho would give some satisfactory answer ;o the farming community in his electorate for the manner in which ho deliberately misled the farmers over the proposed dairy regulations, which were suggested prior to lastelection. I had for many years, up to last election, supported the Liberal Government, but, accepting Mr Hino’s assurances that the dairy regulations were law and that “I would not be allowed to use the same cart to take the skim milk home from the factory that 1 took the fresh milk to the factory in.” And that “an inspector would como around and inspect the clothing that my family wore during milking time.” And “that a tax of 5s per cow would be levied on all milking cows/’ and so on. These were the assurances of Mr Hine, and they were repeated by him more than once, and from more than one platform in his electorate in the campaign of three years ago. That ho and his supporters deliberately misled many of the farmers is a fact. Probably Mr Hine imagined that his words would be forgotten, but the farmers have longer memories than he gave them credit for. In view of his misrepresentations, how can Mr Hine ask the farming community to believe any statement he now makes from the public platform? For my part, I regret exceedingly that I was so easily gulled into voting for one who has the small farmers’ interests so little at heart as to mislead them on a question which vitally affects their living, in order to attain' a position in our public life, which he aspired to in order to introduce an element of purity. In throe weeks’ time the revenge of the dairy farmers is coming.—l am, etc., FARMER No. 2.
