RETURNS OF CULTIVATED LANDS. GEN ERA!/ DECK EASES. (Per Press Association t Wellington, November 23. Returns in tJic Gazette show that the area under wheat is 830,389 acres, an increase of 83,100; oats, 593,390, a decrease of 153,324; barlay, 31,831, a decrease of 74,435. The total area under crop is 1,015,822, a decrease of 08,887. Root and green crops show 713,082 acres, a decrease of 92,239. The total lands in occupation are 40,238,120 acres, an increase of 2,033,777. As no collection of statistics was made last year, the comparison is with the previous season. The average yields were:—"Wheat, 25.73 bushels; oats, 33.41; barley, 27.03; potatoes, 4.87 tons. The decreases are accounted for by drought, and the increase of dairying and sheep fanning.
