MR DEAKIN ANGRY

Melbourne, November 23. The Commonwealth Bank Bill met with a storm of opposition. In the House Mr Deakin strongly attacked the Banking Bill. The Ministry calculated on getting all the advantages and none of the disadvan-tages-of-private hanking by the in’ll. '1 hoy would bo disappointed. The Bill was being hurried through because Ministers wore fearful that the forthcoming labour conference would reject the Government proposal and adopt Mr O’Malley’s scheme, which would not suit the Govonrment. The Bill was Mr O’Malley’s scheme pasteurised. Ho pleaded against the Commonwealth growing rich and taking away banking facilities from the States. He moved that the Bill be referred Lo a select committee for enquiry. Mr Fisher announced that the Government was unable to accept tiie amendment. The debate was adjourned.
