Robinson recovered £IOOO damages from Louis Cohen, author of a booit of reminiscences of Kimberley, and £IOO from Bennett, publisher of the book. In the book it was alleged that Robinson's early career was as a fraudulent dealer, swindler and cowaid. Robinson gave evidence that lie lost his hearing through exposure on Barm to ,-battlefields, and that he had contributed £IOO,OOO to assist the war against the Boers and £BO,OOO after the restoration of peace. He denied Cohen’s allegations. Cohen gave evidence that Robinson's reputation in South Africa was that of a liar, coward, betrayer of women, and illicit diamond buyer.
