A CHINAMAN’S SUICIDE. (Received 20, 10.5 a.m.) Melbourne, November 20. Soong, a Chinese missioner, hanged himself in the Chinese Methodist Church.
TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP. (Received 20, 10.5 a.m.) Melbourne, November 20. Following are the tennis championship grand totals:—Victoria 11 rubbers, 25 sets, 2! 7 games; New South Wales, 10 rubbers, 25 sets, 215 games. Brookes and Addison showed remarkably good form, winning everything competed in.
VISITING TENNIS PLAYERS. (Received 20, 10.5 a.m.) Melbourne, November 20. The Sydney Tennis Association has decided to invito the American Davis Cup players to visit Australia. They will defpiy expenses and allow a substantial proportion of the gate, the visitors to choose the form of contests.
STRIKE NARROWLY AVERTED. (Received 20, 10.5 a.m.) Melbourne, November 20. A bakers’ strike was narrowly averted. A meeting of the men practically decided on immediate cessation. Mr. Carmichael appeared and succeeded in persuading them not to take the drastic step.
VICTORIAN ELECTIONS. Melbourne, November 20. The result of the second count, with one electorate still to come, is that the position is uilchanged.
